Comments:
   This is the only use of Obverse P1 and the only use of Reverse PA in 1872.
Reverse PA is transitional, later used to strike all 1873 proofs.


Obverse P1

The photo below shows the Obverse P1 attribution grid. Also noted by the arrow is a light die line that crosses near the top of shield recess #6. This can serve as an additional marker for this obverse.

Reverse PA

Reverse PA is a strongly doubled die, shown in the following photo. We’ve made this strongly doubled die one of our Top-30 varieties. Note that this reverse die is shared by 1873 OC-P1, so either die marriage can fill this slot in a Top-30 variety set.

Reverse PA also displays strong die lines under the eagle around the talons and lower branch. These are indicated by the arrows in the following photo.
