Comments:
This is the only use of Obverse 4 and the only use of Reverse F. Reverse F has not been found in any other years.

Obverse 4
The photo below shows the Obverse 4 attribution grid. This die is easy to identify since it’s the
only obverse exhibiting a vertically centered date. The other 3 obverse dies have the date slightly
high in the field.

Reverse F
The following photo shows the attribution lines for 1870-CC Reverse F.
1870-CC Reverse F attribution lines
Reverse F is the second of the two medium CC reverses. The second C is farther to the left on Reverse F,
thus farther from the stem. Reverse F mintmarks are barely closer than Reverse E. The line from the
feather tip to the upper right edge of the E in ONE just grazes the right side of the serif of the first C.
For Reverse E it passes through the upper serif of the first C.
Reverse F Die States
- Perfect die.
No later die states have been observed. Based on the number of coins minted during each of 11 minting periods
we concluded that it’s probably first in the emission sequence.
